What are OEM Computer Products: Original Equipment Manufacturer
The term OEM, Original Equipment Manufacturer is actually a misnomer. With the OEM version of the product, the reseller sells the product in a white box with no manual, purchases the OEM product for installation, or adds it to a bundle package. A hardware product which is packaged in the original retail box, is usually called the retail version of the product and is sold at retail pricing.

Why OEM:

With an OEM version of the product, the reseller has purchased one unit or more for one of several reasons:

The product may be adapted and "rebranded" for the special needs of the reseller, or the product is to be included in a package assembled by the reseller. Yet the warranty of both products is usually the same.

The only difference is that the OEM products are usually warranted by the individual reseller and/or distributor, and not the original manufacturer.

What this means to you is that you can purchase the same high quality products for less money with the same warranty by purchasing the OEM version of the product.

The reseller can also sell OEM products which can be purchased for 30% less than the retail version of the product.

OEM, Original Equipment Manufacturer products, such as memory, network cards, processors, hard drives, and video cards are the same as the full retail version products except without the fancy retail box.

Instead, OEM products come in plain white boxes with drivers and installation manuals if applicable. And many times, OEM products are sold in bulk, saving the reseller more money and allowing the reseller to make more money as well if each OEM part or product is sold individually.
