How to Use Email Marketing for Your Computer Reseller Website
You can send emails designed to encourage customer loyalty and enhance customer relationships.

You can also place your marketing messages or advertisements in emails sent by other webmasters in your related niche market in order to draw more traffic to your website.

Simply put, email marketing is the electronic way of sending direct mail, print newsletters, and placing advertisements in subscription magazines and newspapers. It’s the paperless method to marketing.
Email marketing has become a popular strategy for Computer Resellers because it’s much cheaper than most forms of communication. It lets you deliver your message to people directly rather than waiting for people to come to your website to see what you have to offer.

There are 3 types of email marketing for businesses:

1. Direct email: When sending direct email you’re sending a promotional email consisting of a special offer, new product updates, sales on accessories etc. Such emails encourage the reader to take action in one form or another, i.e. buy something, re-visit your site, sign-up for something, enter to win a contest etc.

2. Retention email: Retention emails also known as newsletters can also include promotional messages and advertisements but are developed more for long term readership. Retention emails should provide the reader with value. i.e. how to articles, industry updates, product maintenance, and any topic related valuable information. Retention emails should always benefit the reader.

3. Advertising in other marketers emails: There are more ways to send your marketing message out than using your own list. You can send out an advertisement message in other peoples’ emails as well. You can find topic related websites who offer free newsletters and pay them to include your ad in their newsletter which they send out to their subscribers. And there are many email newsletters that are created for this very purpose – which is to sell advertising space to others.

Email promotions and email newsletters:

Email promotions focus on making the sale by getting the reader to take immediate action, while email newsletters focus on customer retention and building long-term relationships.

A fair example of a balance between promotional emails and newsletters would be to send promotional emails when new products arrive and send newsletters with quality content, industry news and product updates.

Use promotional emails to sell and newsletter emails to retain readership.

Permission based email:

Permission based email is the thought of responsible email marketing where the owner of the email address has given you permission to send them commercial emails. If you don’t have permission to send them emails then the recipient will regard your message as spam; unsolicited email.

Do not send spam. If enough email recipients report your emails as spam then your email accounts and your website may be shut down.
A good example of permission based email would be when a customer visits your internet storefront, buys something and during the check out process clicks on the box marked “Yes, please send me product news via email”.

Or, a customer can visit your web site and sign up for a bi-weekly newsletter offering product and industry updates, or deals and sales on related items.

They signed up for your emails so now you have permission to send those people your email messages. Otherwise your emails will be considered as spam.

Why email marketing?

Because it works! Email marketing creates sales, repeat customers, repeat web site visits and re-establishes customer awareness.

Email marketing works for many reasons and can be targeted towards consumers who are more likely to buy your computer products or services. Email marketing builds relationships, loyalty and trust which are all contributing factors to online credibility. And when placing ads in other peoples newsletters, they can send people to your computer reseller website, build awareness and contribute to your name brand.

Email marketing works when the basics are done correctly. Correct procedures consist of  building a list of people who want to receive your message; creating a well designed sales message; and making sure your emails make it to your recipients.
And there are plenty of email sales tactics to learn. For example, just mailing a small coupon offer to existing customers can bring in a flood of sales.

That's the best way to get it right the first time is by learning how the pros do it, and then go one step further.

Email communication services:

Most major internet businesses use their own in-house, email list management software to run their promotional and newsletter emails. However, for small to mid-sized computer reseller businesses there are plenty of affordable list building and email send out service providers such as Aweber Communications which will help you build your list, create and design crafty sales emails and newsletters, and send them out to all your subscribers.

Aweber, www.Aweber.com  and many other service providers offer email sign up subscription forms, automated email list management, automated email responders, tracking and reporting, optimized campaigns and more.

Such services can start from $19 per month yet can also come included with your web site hosting package from your web host provider. NOTE: Service prices rise as your email list grows.

Desktop email and Webmail accounts are not designed to send out mass email marketing campaigns. Sending out mass emails from your own server can cause your website to get shut down.

Buying and renting email lists or building your own:

Some people seem to think that it’s much easier to buy or rent an email list rather than build their own list. This is not so, and is not safe at all. The best and safest method to use is to build your own list of email addresses from the people who visit your website and actually want to receive your emails and have given you permission to send them your messages.

Building your own list takes time and patience, but the rewards can be profitable as self built lists are built by sign ups and orders. Once you have their permission to send them emails then they’re open for whatever you have to offer. This is why successful email marketing always consists of permission based marketing.

People respond well to emails they ask for as opposed to emails they didn’t want. And if they didn’t ask for your email then they might report your message as spam. Buying and renting list is just not worth it. Instead, build your own email list.

Building your own opt-in email list:

Building your own list is as simple as inserting your sign-up form into your web pages and making it as easy as possible for your website visitors to sign up for your email newsletter seeing that your website visitors are your best source for email addresses.

Your email sign-up form is also a critical part to your email marketing efforts. Email subscriber, sign-up form scripts are provided by the email subscriber service of your choice.

The sign up form must be simple and straight to the point. Ask for their name and main email address. Nothing more, nothing less. Your sign-up form must also be placed in a place where your website visitors will see it. And since most people read from left to right then it would be best to have your sign-up form displayed on your left hand margin of your web pages. (Top left side of your main content may work best.)

You can also insure privacy by adding a side note privacy statement: “All email addresses are kept private”.

You can also add a short description letting the subscriber know what they’ll be getting: “Sign up for free updates, promotions and industry news”.

Frequency of sending out emails:

Frequency of email send outs is also important. News letters could be sent out on a bi-weekly basis, or every 3 weeks while promotional emails can be sent in the same manner as well, unless of course when a new product or accessory hits the market, in which case you would send it out right there and then.

Just keep in mind that the more emails your subscribers receive then the more likely they are to opt-out of your email list. When it comes to email marketing in the computer reseller market, less is better.

All you have to do to get started is choose an email subscriber service provider, such as Aweber for example, insert your email sign-up form into your web pages, build your list and then start creating and sending out effective emails. Once you have your own permission based, email list, then email marketing can become profitable and very rewarding as well.
