Can I manually
adjust camera settings with the ePhoto CL50?
Like the ePhoto 1680 and the ePhoto 1280, the ePhoto CL50 offers both automatic and manual
control over exposure, focus, and white balance. For the photographer or experienced user,
manual control is extremely handy under difficult shooting situations or when achieving
specific effects. You can lock the focus at 1, 2, 5 meters or infinity. The manual focus
control is especially useful under low-light conditions when the auto focus may not be
able to perceive enough contrast to work efficiently. Like its predecessors, the CL50 also
has several exposure settings. You can specify aperture priority or manual exposure which
simply lightens or darkens a photo. In addition to this, you can preset the light metering
at centre weighted, spot, or matrix.
What file
formats are my images saved in with the ePhoto CL50?
Images from the ePhoto CL50 are saved in the industry-standard JPEG format. These images
are application ready and can be used immediately. Within the PhotoWise application you
can preset to download the camera images into other file formats like TIFF, BMP, FlashPix,
Targa.
Is the CL50
compatible with higher capacity SmartMedia cards?
The ePhoto CL50 is compatible with 32 MB SmartMedia cards. You can also use 2 MB, 4
MB, 8 MB, and 16 MB memory cards.
Does the ePhoto
CL50 have a rapid shot mode?
Yes. The ePhoto CL50 features a burst mode, allowing you to hold the shutter for
continuous shots at half second intervals for up to 10 shots (in 640 x 480 or VGA
resolution only).
What is the
ePhoto CL50 QuickReview feature?
The ePhoto CL50 QuickReview feature allows you to control whether to keep or to erase a
photo immediately after capturing it. After taking the picture, the image is displayed on
the LCD with the option to save or delete the photo. The picture can be deleted
immediately even before the image has been saved to the SmartMedia card.
QuickReview is especially handy, since every user inevitably takes a shot that is not
worth saving, which is often realized immediately. In addition, for any image that you
want to save, QuickReview allows you to record a voice memo to the picture.
What can you
tell me about the voice annotation feature?
The ePhoto CL50 is the first ePhoto camera equipped with the ability to attach up to 10
seconds of sound to each picture. This allows you to add comments or sound to each
picture. This is especially useful in fields such as real estate, education, law
enforcement, medicine, insurance, or in any other specialty requiring documentation,
identification, or labeling.
After you take a
picture, the QuickReview option lets you record sound without switching to PLAY mode:
1. Press the
QuickReview button on top of the camera to activate this option.
2. During processing, press the arrow button to select Voice Memo. (When processing is
completed, you see the prompt: Record Sound?).
3. Press OK to record your sound message (up to 10 seconds). Speak into the microphone,
which is next to the color LCD. A progress bar shows you how much
time you have left to record.
4. At the end of the recording, a confirmation screen appears. Select either Save to keep
the recording or Exit to leave the menu without saving the
recording.
Note:
You can listen to the sound after you connect the camera to a TV or transfer the image to
a computer. You can also add a recording or change it after you capture the image in PLAY
mode.
What is the
ePhoto CL50 SunCatcher?
To capture photos, you can use either the traditional optical viewfinder or the 2"
LCD screen. While most digital cameras with LCDs are difficult to use in bright sunlight,
the ePhoto CL50 overcomes this problem with its unique SunCatcher panela
built-in prism which directs sunlight behind the LCD to conserve battery power and enhance
LCD brightness. With SunCatcher, you use the LCD to record pictures in extremely
sunny conditions. Using the SunCatcher conserves batteries and enhances LCD
brightness.
Does the ePhoto
CL50 support digital zoom?
Yes. The ePhoto CL50 supports a 2x digital zoom. Use in VGA mode (640 x 480 pixels)
when recording images. Use in play mode, to zoom into the captured images to check on
focus and detail.
Does the ePhoto
CL50 include a zoom lens?
Yes. The ePhoto CL50 includes a 3x optical, 34-102 mm equivalent zoom lens.
How many images
can be stored on a 8 MB SmartMedia card (included with the ePhoto CL50)?

capture mode or resolution:

SmartMedia cards. An 8 MB, 3.3 V card is included with the camera box. You can use
up to a 32 MB SmartMedia card with the CL50.

PhotoGenie. Other supported resolution modes are:
1280 x 960 pixels
1280 x 960 pixels Black & White Text Mode
VGA 640 x 480 pixels
VGA 640 x 480 pixels Burst Mode
What is Agfa
PhotoGenie and how does it work?
Featured in all current ePhoto models, PhotoGenie achieves best-in-class image
quality by removing artifacts, reconstructing image features, and producing exceptionally
sharp pictures at any resolution. PhotoGenie also enhances the "optical"
resolution of pictures taken using the ePhoto CL50's highest capture mode to produce true
photo quality images for enlargements up to 8" x 10" with 1600 x 1200 pixels -
or 1.9 megapixels. No megapixel digital camera outside the Agfa ePhoto family has this
unique ability.
How does the
ePhoto CL50 compare with the ePhoto 1680?
In many respects, the specifications of the ePhoto CL50 are similar to the ePhoto 1680.
Both cameras include a 1.9 megapixel resolution (with Agfa PhotoGenie), 6x zoom (3x
optical plus 2x digital), macro, four flash modes, video out, and support for
SmartMedia removable memory cards (a 8 MB 3.3 V card is included with the ePhoto
CL50, and a 4 MB card is included with the ePhoto 1680). In addition, both cameras include
a document mode (black & white), for capturing text that can be converted using OCR
software. Other common features include interruptible image capture and playback, the
ability to save camera settings, and the ability to delete or lock any number of photos at
one time. Although the Photo 1680 and CL50 share several major features, there are also

What does the
"CL" in CL50 stand for?
The "CL" in the model name represents "classic", signifying the
camera's resemblance to a point-and-shoot film camera.
Does the
FlashPath support the new 32 MB SmartMedia cards (compatible with the ePhoto
CL50)?
Yes, on the PC platform only. Using the latest release of the FlashPath drivers (for the
SmartDisk FlashPath driver for Windows the latest version is 2.68), you can read the new
32 MB SmartMedia cards into the FlashPath floppy adapter for SmartMedia cards on the PC
platform. Updated Windows FlashPath drivers can be downloaded from the SmartDisk company's
web site at http://www.smartdisk.com (download/drivers link). The Macintosh driver only
supports up to 16 MB SmartMedia cards. Note: The ePhoto CL50 supports all 3.3 V
SmartMedia cards up to 32 MB capacity (2/4/8/16/32 MB).
I can not establish
connection to my CL50 via the serial port on a Power Macintosh 4400, 7220, 5500, 6500, G3,
PowerBook 3400, G3 series, 2400, or Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh.
Install the SerialDMA 2.1 update from Apple which you can download from the ePhoto
Software Library section.
You can add sound
annotations to your pictures in the ePhoto CL50 camera, using the on-camera microphone. To
save these files or to listen to them on your computer using PhotoWise 1.8, you need
QuickTime 3.0 or later. If you do not already have this version of QuickTime on your
computer you can download it (along with installation instructions) free of charge from
the Apple Computer web site at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime.
When using the
ePhoto TWAIN interface of PhotoWise 1.8, to delete, use the Delete tab in the TWAIN main
window. Do NOT use the "Erase last" or "Erase all" in the camera
controls window. (Doing so will cause the TWAIN interface to shut down.) |
