"Shoppers in the US purchased a significant amount of computer products this year", according to a recent online poll conducted by PC Data. "Nearly 71 percent of those currently online purchased computer products, the survey found".

"According to The NPD Group, computer hardware and software categories are seeing triple-digit growth".

According to the Media Metrix Online Shopping Index, retail computer sites
were seeing a significant increase in traffic. Computers surpassed books to
become the top retail subcategory, with 2.3 million average daily unique
visitors. Computers sites also represented three of the top five gainers.

HP, McAfee and Symantec had week-over-week average daily unique
visitor increases of 86.5, 75.4 and 63.8 percent, respectively. "Computer
retail web sites are among the most popular online destinations," said Anne
Rickert, measurement analyst, Media Metrix.
